Tea and Scandal at Seven

By
Larnette Phillips
The Southern Shady Ladies have moved to Texas—and as you might
expect, there’s an uproar in the State of
Texas such as you’ve
never
seen! The little tiny town the ladies now reside in, well, it’s done
been woke up!
Miss Trudy Philpot took her money and bought her a
Texas ranch and a
brand new Hummer. The price of gas and oil don’t
bother the rich and
she’s rich, let me tell you! Of course, where one Southern Shady Lady goes, the others follow. Miss Flossy Tringle
couldn’t wait to survey
the land for all the eligible men in Texas.
My God, do you realize
how big the State of Texas
is? Well, Lord have mercy, you know that’s
where there’s got to be a whole lotta men to choose
from! She rolled
up her curlers, got her some new false eyelashes, closed up her
business and prepared to move it and herself across country.
Miss Tova Devereaux
said Texas
could probably use an attorney with
her fine skills, especially when it comes to catching crooks, dirty
politicians and sleazy televangelists. I imagine the state of
Texas is full of ‘em. And if that’s true, well, then
it’s prime ground for
Miss Lacy Bell-Durning, who convinced her husband
Mathew that Texas is
a new mission field waiting to be led to Jesus. Trust me, if the lost
souls are in Texas,
she aims to find ‘em and she’ll be the first to
tell you that hell won’t hold all the dirty televangelists on the
wrong side of the pulpit. Now Miss Jessica Fleabottom
is a retired
town librarian. When she retired, she turned her books into more than
fantasy and if there’s gossip, she not only can catch it, she can send
it around town faster than the internet ever thought about. So, she, too, packed up herself, her gossip and her new boobs courtesy of ole
Doc Cradlehopper and set out for the tried and true
state. Miss
Portia Ketchum always does seem like the quieter one of the bunch but
then again, I’ve always said, it’s those quiet ones you have to watch.
Miss Bessie Mae McCutcheons has been Miss Trudy’s maid
for longer
than she can remember so they’re pulling her little Doodle Bug behind
the Hummer and set off for Texas. And if tea and scandal isn’t enough, then you might want to
catch
their little escapades—when they have their little adventures out in
town. Some folk want to run when they see them coming but then
realize that if they do, they’ll miss the most fun they’ve ever had.
Just ask about Miss Flossy and Crazy Ace, or the six-inch hatpin and
the pea shooter one of them carries, not to mention the time Miss
Bessie Mae got them stuck in the mud in Miss Trudy’s Hummer. So, there you have it! Life with the ladies—
