Dear Readers

I have recently joined NSAEN, and I love it. I’m 16, so finding a job is hard enough as it is. Being home schooled makes my day that much more boring. Having a job is really helping me out, not to mention keeping me busy.

Being home schooled, I pass the time by watching the television. I spend most of my time watching the History Channel, but every now and then, I change over to one of the news channels. It seems like no matter what channel it is, someone has either been kidnapped, murdered, or some college has been shot up.

Being a teenager, I also play video games, and have noticed a steady increase in the violence of rated T games.

The T games are becoming as bad as some of the M games. The blood, gore, and sexual references are gaining more and more acceptance as American morals decrease. It is very disappointing. I know a 13 y/o that is allowed to play M games because they have the same material as T games.

Another thing that I have noticed is a lack of parental responsibility.  It seems to be ok now for parents to leave their under-age children alone while they travel hundreds of miles away. Some simply ignore their children, which is why a lot of children are so belligerent. The lack of parental response causes them to act out in increasingly dangerous ways, simply to gain some sort of acknowledgement. The amount of time that children waste playing games is increasing as well. Some games take literally hundreds of hours to complete, and some people go above and beyond these times. Due to this lack of actual stimulation, creativity is dropping.

During my home schooling time, I managed to write a book.

My book, titled; The Abernathy Chronicles, will hopefully stimulate teenagers in my area to get up and do something. I bet that if every teenager wrote a book, more parents would notice. My book is about a young man named Dante Abernathy. He lives on a planet far from Earth, with people that have extraordinary powers. Dante belongs to the royal family of Eden, the ruling kingdom of their planet. Shortly after his rite of passage, Dante finds out that he is above average, even among his people.

I’m hoping that I can do more than just sell copies of my book. I’m hoping that not just teenagers, but adults will also take notice and turn off their games and see what the written word can do for people and turn out some books of their own.

Regards,

Chance Taylor
