Snow and Ice Sculpture

 

If you are traveling to Belgium in December do not miss a stroll through a realm of wonder carved in 300,000 kg of crystal-clear ice and 400 tons of pure snow.  For the Snow and Ice Sculpture Festival in Bruges, 40 professional sculptors are working for 40 days to accomplish one of the most wondrous display of light and translucent form.  This year’s attraction is the Polar pavilion built in cooperation with the International Polar Foundation

 

MOMIX in Moscow

Christmas Markets all through Europe

In cheerful anticipation of Christmas time, picturesque winter cabins, carousels and skate rings are built overnight in all the European city centers. Christmas decoration, spices, hot chestnuts and hot wine are just a few delights offered to get us in the mood for celebration.   Some of Europe’s most beautiful Christmas markets are in Tivoli Gardens Copenhagen, Denmark; Cardiff, England and Nuremberg, Germany.

The Nutcracker in London

Pancake Run in Berlin

 

For the sporty ones, here’s a great way to spend the New Year’s Eve: take part to the traditional Pancake Run in Berlin.   You can choose between the two, four, six, ten and 15 kilometers races in the event, which begins in Waldschulallee.  At the end of the race each of the participants receives a pancake, the filling if which varying from mustard to apple sauce provides always a food opportunity for fun and laughter.
