How Your Dog Can Help You Heal After A Divorce

Dogs can play a pivotal role in the healing process after a divorce.  When your world has been turned upside down, you can rely on man’s best friend to comfort you and be there for you in times of despair. When dealing with many of the emotions that arise from a divorce, such as anger, loneliness and sadness, your dog can help you on the road to recovery and speed the healing process.

After my own divorce, I was emotionally drained. I had spent a year and half in a long drawn out court battle. The last thing on my mind was to take on any new responsibilities. But after a few months, as I began the process of mourning the death of my marriage, I yearned for a new companion, but not a human one. I decide I wanted a dog.

I was feeling lonely, but was not ready to get into a serious relationship with a new man. What I craved was attention, loyalty and unconditional love, something only a four legged furry friend could provide. After all, what man jumps up and down every time you come home, greets you with wet, sloppy kisses and is happy just to be in your presence?

I began my quest to find my new love and I found my new baby, a tiny Maltese, who I name Luigi. My days and nights became consumed with his separation anxiety, wee wee pad training and obsessing over what puppy food to feed him. But I no longer dwelled on my recent divorce. Caring for Luigi was a welcomed distraction.

Luigi is now two years old and provides me with many laughs. He is a delightful

and spoiled little dog. I was blessed to have him come into my life. He has helped me heal from my divorce by providing me with the very things I needed most at the time,

love, comfort, acceptance and to feel needed again.

Dogs can be miracle workers in our lives and are angels that do not judge or condemn us.

They are there for us in the best and worst of times. If your heart has been broken and you feel like you cannot trust again, seek comfort from your furry, faithful best friend. With a dog at your side you can get through anything life throws your way.
