RAMBO 4

Movie review by Terrell Woodfork

This may seem to be a bit unusual, but I am about to defend a movie I haven’t seen yet. I have to tell you, when I heard that “Rambo 4” was ready to be released, I was very excited. I felt that it was about time that we got to see a guy who looks like he can kick-ass, tough enough and built like steel. A lot of critics trashed the film! People’s main bitching was that Sylvester was too old. Wait a minute – Wait a minute! When we watch a martial arts movie from Japan or China, who is the baddest motherf…..to beat? –“The old guy”! So why can’t the rules apply here in America? Oh, and speaking of America, aren’t we told all the time that we can do whatever we want to do?

That’s exactly what Sylvester did! He decided to do one last movie with this character. Bruce Willis did it. Clint Eastwood did it. Mel Gibson did it. So what’s the problem with this picture? Hollywood and film critics will always have their favorites, for example “The Last Samurai”. A white man goes to Japan, kills a Samurai, he lives in the dead Samurai’s house and to top the story he also lives with the dead Samurai’s wife. She slowly falls in love with him, the kids accept him and oh boy, let’s not forget, he masters the sword and kills a bunch of Ninjas.

Now, if you know anything about the Japanese culture --- she would have killed herself, if this were be based on reality. But, every moviegoer who saw the movie expressed “it was a good movie”.

In my opinion, you can always tell when movies are written by a white guy, especially when it comes to Asian, Black and Hispanic women. OK, OK, I admit not all white writers are bad writers and there are some really cool ones out there, that write really good roles for ethnic women in T.V. and film.

Anyway, giving you the example of “The Last Samurai”, I am sure you would understand how easy it is for me to sit back and enjoy “Rambo 4”. Because with Rambo, at least I can believe that it can actually happen, well OK just a little bit!

So go ahead and watch the movie………..
