How, is Doing

Personal development has really come to the mainstream. Ever since the movie

“The Secret”, there has been a wave of books, movies, public speaking events on topics such as inspiration, motivation, the Law of Attraction, and the list grows on.  I even recently discovered a new magazine just out on the newsstands called “Personal Development”!

This reflects a shift in thinking, a social movement that is spreading quietly into our homes to think and feel better about ourselves, that anything is possible, and okay to dream a life we have always wanted to live.

That’s all well and good. But, how does one make it happen? What does it mean to “dream a life you have always wanted”, when all of us are programmed to think “someday”, “If only”, “when this happens I’ll be able to …” and so on.

For most of us we live the life we are “given” and accept it.  The saying “living life by default” means that whatever we DON’T do or change in our lives - life will decide for us, a RESULT of not taking action to change our circumstances.

Taking action creates change.  No action creates change. Life responds regardless of what you do or don’t do.

So, here’s a question for you: Would you rather take action, make decisions in your life based on what YOU want? Or let life do it for you.  You may not get what you want when you live by “default”.

Okay. So HOW does one even begin to apply all the suggestions, all the positive principles, ideas, steps, etc., to create change?  Let’s start with these two basic areas of thought processes for now, and see how things change for you over a period of time.  Awareness is always the first step

  1. Pay attention to your self-talk!  What’s your inner dialog? Example: “I’m not good at …”, “I look like crap”, “I never do anything right.”  When you catch yourself thinking negatively, immediately shift to a positive thought. This is a good time to REMEMBER all the good things about you and your successes. Start a journal to keep track of your thought patterns.
  2. Pay attention to EXCUSES as to why you can’t do something! We all do it. But excuses are very damaging and can hold you back from just about everything you want to accomplish in life. Example: “I can’t do that because I don’t have enough money”, “I’ll do it tomorrow”, “When I have more time I’ll …” etc. Defy your excuse and see what happens!

Becoming aware, and changing these two thought processes, will dramatically change your life. You’ll begin to attract more positive experiences in your life just by becoming more positive within yourself.  This is the beginning, the foundation, of living the life you want and taking action to get it.

Drop me a line and tell me how you’re doing!

My best,

Lesly
