OSCAR NIGHT!

By Beatrice Davis

Don’t forget the Oscar Night next month. Every year we wait with anxiety for this one spectacular night with glitz and glamour. But we should consider that there are many wonderful actors out there who are never considered and never receive the honor of even being nominated. Because of what the Oscar night represents we will watch and love the evening, but let’s take a closer look at this award night.

It has become more of a presidential race and campaign than an award nomination. Starting a few months ahead of time we already talk about the front-runners and who could make the race in being nominated and once you are in the race bets are being placed on who will be the winner! This has gotten way out of hand and has become a ridiculous event that turns into a circus of winners and losers. Half of the year movies are being promoted and handled as a campaign that isn’t even out yet and nobody has seen.

Months ahead of time websites are being developed and everything from gossip and assumption for the who is who and what and where is in full swing and we are waiting patiently for the Academy nominations. Ballots are due Jan. 12, with nominations announced Jan. 22 and winners Feb. 24.

Luckily for all the fans, the academy decides and chooses and makes the appropriate picks to which movies, actors, short films, supporting actors and other important nominees for each categories will be chosen. Of course there will be always a lot of campaigning and prognosticating. But, as in the past we experienced: if the academy likes a movie or an actor, they'll surprise you and will without hesitation nominate if you like it or not.

But now, we ask ourselves, what about all the other wonderful actors and actresses who are never nomiated or considered? I truly believe we need to establish a second Oscar for the actors I would like to see who can act and deserve an award for their incredible work and performance.

Please don’t hesitate to give me your feedback and your thoughts on the Oscar night. I sure would love to hear your opinion and what you think about that one glitzy, most profiled, and star power night.
