FORGIVE AND BE FREE
By Gloria Ramirez

It has been said that any unwillingness to forgive is like taking poison and
expecting the person who did us wrong to die. For many years this is what I
did. I felt angry towards many people in my life and I did not know that I was
poisoning myself. I had turmoil in my relationships, my finances, my emotions
and my relationship with my Creator. I did not understand that it was all
related to my unwillingness to forgive. I did not know that I had the answer
inside of me and therefore, for many years, I did not do anything about it.
Finally, when the pain was too overwhelming, I decided to seek help and this is
when my life really started to have some meaning.
The 1st step I took was to take an inventory of my life. This required a lot of
humility and determination. With courage I took a look at the results in my
life and I realized that I needed to do some serious
work and changes in my life. The second step was to do the unthinkable, to
forgive the people who had hurt me in the past. With the help of an amazing
lady, Billie Beth, I was able to move through the painful memories and one by
one forgive those people for what I perceived they had done to me. I remember
her telling me that I was going to feel lighter, like a different person once I
finished my forgiveness process. She was totally right. I now understand that
what I received in exchange was FREEDOM. I had completed a liberation process
that changed my life forever. The 3rd step was to make sure to do daily maintenance
and up to this date this is what I do. I have created a loving rule in my life,
which is to forgive, within 24 hours, people or situations that show up for
healing, and to make the choice to have inner peace.
Ray James, teacher from The Secret, says that true forgiveness is when we can
say the following to the person who hurt you: “Thank you for giving me that
experience.” I would not have been able to say that before my forgiveness
process. However, now I see all the hidden gifts behind my experiences,
including the fact that now I help others move through their own forgiveness
processes.
Forgiving others and yourself is a gift that you give to yourself. I invite you
to examine your heart, and if there is any room to practice the spiritual law of
forgiveness, do it and set yourself FREE.
