She was the visionary, from the beginning
centered in the neighborhood, founding the “Clinic”
An open door in her home to offer care for the countless one’s
falling through the cracks unable to afford treatment
with little or NO insurance…
SHE said yes above the hum of a sanctimonious few who
raised their pious noses in the air
as she dared to care for ‘those’ people
From this small beginning the numbers grew from hundreds to
thousands and they have become whole.
They respond to early detection and are SAVED!
Those outside its Borough borders seek her refuge.
They are soothed with the Balm of Gilead.
They take the route of responsibility for their medical health,
seeking solutions in the midst of an insurance card society
where money talks a little
and the lack of it speaks to the closed doors of care.
This place has become a haven, warming hearts along the way.
They apply color to the welcome mats and INSTANTLY
their blood pressure lowers because they are comforted.
They can hear the bilingual rhythm of communication
and they know they will be understood.
It has grown from the faith of a mustard seed;
an idea in the mind of one who DARED to think outside
the walls of conformity to rescue those who need care most.
She begot Him and He begot Them and They became We…
filling the souls, curing the disease, calming the fears, erasing the pain
answering the question why and responding with “no fee for today”
They laugh, they cry and they receive that which they NEED!
Their prescriptions and filled, they return to work, they bear healthy children
they remain productive members of society
and they can erase one of many worries from their slate
and the ‘dream’ of a
